Man in court charged with murder of Sam Cook
22 year old Carl Madigan appeared before magistrates this morning
A man has made his first appearance in court charged with the murder of Sam Cook in Empire Bar
Carl Madigan, 22, is accused of stabbing Sam in the basement area of the venue on Seel Street in Liverpool city centre just before midnight on October 21.
Sam who's from Crosby was later pronounced dead in hospital
Madigan from Garston appeared before magistrates today.
He only spoke to confirm his name, age and address to the court during the short hearing.
Legal representatives for Madigan indicated the 22 year old would plead not guilty to murder, but indicated he will admit possessing a bladed article
He has been remanded into custody for a plea and case hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on the 11th January
Madigan also appeared alongside 20 year old Lewis Langfield from Anfield who is accused of assaulting Sam, causing him actual bodily harm. He has been granted bail to appear at the Crown Court on the same day as Madigan
A provisional trial date has been set for June
