Man charged with murder of Ashley Dale

The 28 year old from St Helens has been extradited from Spain

Merseyside Police have tonight (24th August 2023) charged a man with the murder of Ashley Dale.

The 28-year-old Knowsley Council worker was killed in the back garden of her home in Old Swan on 21 August 2022. Emergency services found her with a gunshot wound.

A 28-year-old man, from St Helens, has been extradited from Spain and charged with Ashley's murder.

With the support of the National Crime Agency’s National Extradition Unit, Ian Fitzgibbon was brought back to the UK this afternoon on a Trade and Co-operation agreement, after being arrested by the Spanish National Police.

He has been charged with the murder of Ashley Dale on 21 August 2022, conspiracy to murder Lee Harrison; possession of a prohibited weapon, namely a Skorpion sub machine gun pistol and associated ammunition with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to possess a prohibited weapon namely a Skorpion sub machine gun and associated ammunition.

He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday, 25 August).

The arrest comes just three days after the anniversary of Ashley's death.
