Man attacked in Liverpool city centre

23 year old suffered injuries to head and face

An investigation is underway after a 23 year-old man was assaulted in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday 28th August.

The man was walking along Bold Street, close to the junction of Slater Street, at around 12.15am when it is believed he was punched to the face and fell to the floor where he was further assaulted.

The man suffered injuries to his head and face. He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. A 32 year-old man who attempted to intervene in the incident was also assaulted and suffered a laceration to his face.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out in the local area.

Detective Inspector Ben Dyer said: “The investigation is in the very early stages and a number of lines of enquiry are being carried out. We know that the area around Bold Street/Slater Street would still have been busy at that time and I would ask anyone who witnessed the assault or the aftermath to contact us.

“Behaviour like this will not be tolerated and we will do everything within our powers to find the person or people responsible and bring them to justice. I would ask anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
