Bill Shankly's granddaughter says the decision by Liverpool's owners to break away into a European Super League is a betrayal of everything he built the club to be.

It comes as Liverpool's players have used their social media accounts to issue a joint statement saying they don't like the idea and they don't want it to happen.

Meanwhile, Karen Gill has told us the intention to break away by FSG is a betrayal of her grandfather's legacy :

"My grandad would have felt like a betrayal of his legacy and vision for the club and his whole philosophy of life.

"It's completely against everything he stood for. He sowed the seeds and did it with some incredible people by his side in the boot room and with the supporters and of course it's an insult.

"It's not an oversight, it's a blatant insult to everything they stood for. The fact tha6t fans weren't consulted and it's disrespectful to the manager and the players.

"it's very difficult to come back from anything like that because the trust has completely been blown into the air so getting back to my grandad's philosophy of football and his ethos I'm not even sure in this current climate if something like that is possible".
