Lawyers in Liverpool are expecting a spike in applications from separating couples as no-fault divorce is introduced in England and Wales.

From today, couples will not have to either separate for at least two years, increasing to five if one party does not consent, or allocate blame to legally end their marriage.

It's been described as the biggest reform of divorce laws for 50 years and comes after a long campaign from family solicitors.

Anna Francis works for Jackson Lees in the city centre:

"There are some clients here who are waiting for the new law to come in so they can divorce with no fault so I think we'll see an influx in clinets who are waiting for the new laws to come in.

"It will hopefully enable them to seperate amicably and deal with any issues relating to the children and financila issues that arise as a result of that seperation, if they own property together and that will hopefully allow them to move on and deal with those things more amicably".
