Person rescued from hotel fire in Liverpool city centre

Emergency services were called to the scene last night

A person's been rescued from a hotel in Liverpool city centre after a fire broke out on the second floor.

Mersey Fire, Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service were all called to the scene on Castle Street.

Crews were alerted at about 8.30pm on Saturday to reports of a fire - three engines were sent.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the hotel and had the fire out within half an hour.

The whole hotel was evacuated and everyone was accounted for.

One person was rescued and given first aid at the scene.

Castle Street was closed for a time while emergency services were on the scene.

An investigation into what caused the fire will now be carried out.
