Liverpool hairdresser setting up domestic abuse charity inundated with calls for help

A Liverpool hairdresser who's in the process of setting up her own domestic abuse charity - says over a thousand people have contacted her for support.

Katie Walker, who's 32 and from Bootle needed hospital treatment after she was violently attacked by a former partner.

She had every bone in her face broken as a result of the attack.

Now she's set up a salon on County Road, where she hopes to help others by sharing her own experience.

Since Katie started to put her plan into action, she says she's been contacted by over a thousand women saying they need help.

"The whole thing is overwhelming, and it's quite shocking that not more is being doing to tackle this issue"

"It just makes me want to work harder to raise awareness and try and get as much support to get this off the ground as soon as possible."

Called Katie Cares, the aim is to support people in an environment that is comfortable

Katie said: "The girl I spoke to was amazing, but I didn't feel comfortable at all, especially for the younger girls as well it can be really intimating, even though they are amazing at what they do."

"If they feel they're walking into a salon, the idea is we don't want them to feel like they are getting counselling"
