LGBTQ+ community warn Liverpool has taken a step back in the fight for equality
This weekend hundreds are expected to come together to march through the city centre
Organisers of this weekend's LGBTQ+ protest in Liverpool are calling for urgent action to end violent attacks on members of the community.
Over the last few months Merseyside Police have dealt with an increase in homophobic and transphobic hate crimes with victims taking to social media to highlight their injuries.
Hundreds are expected to march through the city to call for change and an end to stereotypes.
Auntie Climax from Reclaim Pride sez Liverpool has taken a step back in the fight for equality :
"We can't move fast enough, this meeds to have urgent action now. The scary thing when something happens regularly it starts to feel normal. this isn't normal. This is a real reversion and a stepping back.
"We want immediate action on the nine hundred percent increase that has happened in our beautiful city, we want community-led solutions and we want to bring groups and people together and amplify their voices. "It's inequality that is driving the violence. It's funding cuts to vital services to vital mental health and drug services that trickles down into an anger that ends up harming everyone".
