Police investigating an attempted robbery on a cash machine in Rose Lane have recovered a dark coloured Ford Fiesta in Garstn which they believe was abandoned following the incident.

Thieves tried to blow up the ATM machine in Mossley Hill just before midnight on Monday and residents reported witnessing a car speeding from the scene shortly afterwards.

Businesses around the destroyed cash point were today closed as police cordoned off part of the street and forensics collected evidence.

Detective Inspector Paul Speight said: “Our investigation is in its very early stages and it appears that thankfully nobody was hurt. "

"However, this is an extremely dangerous way to target any premises, which clearly put members of the public at risk."

"The damage and inconvenience to the businesses nearby is also significant, and we have shown before in successful operations that we will use all available means to identify and bring to justice those identified."

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in and around Rose Lane at around 11.45pm, have home CCTV or if you were passing in a vehicle and have any dashcam footage."

"All information will be acted on and I would reiterate that we will be relentless in investigating these offences so come forward with anything you know about those involved.”
