Investigation launched after death of inmate at Walton Prison

An investigation is underway after an inmate died at Walton prison.

36 year old Paul Jones died last Wednesday, prompting an investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

A Prison service spokesperson said;

“HMP Liverpool remand prisoner Paul Jones died in prison on 26 September. Our thoughts are with Mr Jones’s family at this difficult time."

“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman."

A report released in January found prisoners were living in the "worst conditions" ever seen by inspectors.
