An investigation's underway this morning, after a number of incidents as Liverpool brought an end to Manchester City's unbeaten start to their premier league season.

The 1-0 win wasn't the only news to come from the match, with City fans chanting vile things about Hillsborough, graffitiing the concourse with similar words, and Liverpool fans throwing coins at Pep Guardiola.

A statement from LFC said:

Following the game, Jurgen Klopp apologised for the coin incidents on behalf of the club, and said he hadn't had the opportunity to speak to Guardiola about it in person.

Klopp said: "I had no idea about it, I was obviously not in the stadium at that moment probably, I did not see him anymore after the game. It never should happen. Never."

The Liverpool manager also said he "went over the top" so fully deserved his red card towards the end of the game.

He was furious a foul on goal scorer Mohamed Salah had not been given and was sent from the touchline after aiming his anger at the assistant referee.

Klopp says it's hard to understand the officials' decision: "I got lost in that moment, that's not ok, but I think a little bit as an excuse, I would like to mention how can you not whistle that foul? How on earth is it possible? I wish I would get an explanation."

The reds are eighth in the table, 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
