An Everton fitness coach has been joined by friends and supporters in Crosby today (24 December) as he reaches double figures on his 26 marathons in 26 weeks challenge!

Jack Dowling is aiming to raise £64,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The target was recently doubled after reaching his initial fundraising target.

That would be enough to fund two Macmillan specialist nurses for the duration of the challenge.

Jack's older brother Tom was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer and he and the Dowling family are receiving support from Macmillan.

Jack said:

"I’ve been blown away by the support received. From every pound donated to each message of encouragement, it’s all helping to keep me going and my legs moving.

"Ultimately though, what I’m doing is nothing compared to what Tom and others in similar situations are going through. So this is my way of saying thank you to the Macmillan teams who do such amazing and important work in helping people throughout their cancer journey. I’ve seen this first hand and I know what a difference the money raised will make.

Jack has been joined along the way, both in part and for the full distance, by runners from Alive Running Club and Marsh Lane Harriers as well as other supporters and friends.

Jack added:

"The last couple of weeks have been tough as conditions have become a little cold or wet.

"I can’t thank those who have been coming out with me enough. Having company along the way and being joined by such a big group each week is getting me over the final miles and making the challenge really special.

"I’d love for more to join, so if anyone fancies running a mile or more with me just get in touch and come and join us."
