Details released on EuroFest event for Liverpool
It's going to be held in the lead up to Eurovision
Details have been released about EuroFest - a two week long cultural festival that will take over Liverpool in the lead up to the Eurovision Song Contest.
It will run from Monday 1st to Sunday 14 May, and will see the city transformed as the world descends on the city.
There is going to be a number of projects, four of which have been revealed today.
The Blue and Yellow Submarine Parade by The Kazimier will feature a huge outdoor underwater sea disco which will make its way through the city to kickstart the Eurovision Party. Working with UK and Ukrainian designers, musicians and community groups, we can expect hundreds of performers, incredible music and a huge glitterball jellyfish. T
The English National Opera will be putting on a show with one epic outdoor performance - including a live chorus and orchestra.
A Ukrainian artist will also transform Liverpool Cathedral into a train carriage. Katya Buchatska will replicate the journey from Izyum in Ukrain to the border with Poland. Filmed in real time, the piece offers an extraordinary window into the landscape of Ukraine as it is today and also serves as a reminder of the spirit and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
Finally, there will be Rave Ukraine - a collaboration between producer Jez Collins, UAME I Music Saves UA and Open Culture to deliver a simultaneous rave in Liverpool and Kyiv which will be streamed across the world.
Eurovision Minister Stuart Andrew, says, “The Eurovision Song Contest will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our shared love of music and the cultural programme in Liverpool is filled with brilliant entertainment.
“The commissions range from the wacky to the poignant and I am pleased that the programme has strong involvement from our Ukrainian friends. I look forward to seeing each commission come to life in May.”
The chosen commissions were selected through a process which included the BBC, British Council, Ukrainian Institute and Culture Liverpool. More details about will be released in the coming weeks.
