Emergency crews called to reports of explosion in Birkenhead

Fire crews are on scene at the Argyle Industrial Estate

Emergency services have been called out to the Argyle Industrial Estate in Birkenhead following reports of an explosion.

Crews were first called just before 5am (15th September) and two fire engines were immediately sent to the scene.

Gas supplies have been isolated, and CADENT are on scene to ensure the area is safe.

While damage has been discovered to one of the buildings, there is no sign of any fire or any reported injuries.

Merseyside Police say enquired are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

In a statement, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said:

"On arrival crews gained access to a single storey industrial unit, approximately 50m x 10m.

"Once inside crews found some damage inside the premises but no signs of fire.

"Utilities to the premises have been isolated.

"Merseyside Police, Cadent and a structural engineer from Wirral Council are also in attendance.

"One fire engine remains in attendance.

"There are no reports of any injuries.

"Please avoid the area."
