Cyclist rushed to hospital after Kirkby crash

Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision in Kirkby today (Friday 3 November).

Just before 7am, officers were called to a report that a white Volkswagen Sirocco car was in collision with cyclist at the junction of Moorgate Road and the East Lancs Road, on the Liverpool bound carriageway.

Emergency services attended and the cyclist, a man in his 20s, has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The driver stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquires.

Road closures are in place in both directions on the East Lancs Road (A580) from junction 4 of M57 to Coopers Lane.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area and find an alternative route on while emergency services attend the incident.

They're also appealing for witnesses, and for any CCTV and dash camera footage which may have captured the incident.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from Merseyside Police Serious Collison Investigation Unit, said: “We have now launched an investigation into the collision and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV and dashcam footage to please contact us.

"We urge drivers who were in the area to please check dashcam footage to see if it has captured anything that will help with the investigation.

“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
