A Chester doctor who fled Afghanistan as a teenager says plans to resettle thousands of refugees in the UK is "too little too late".

Boris Johnson's announced plans to bring 20,000 Afghan Civillians here over the next few years following the Taliban takeover.

Waheed Arian works for the NHS after fleeing the war torn country as a 15 year old. He's opening up about his own experience after arriving here as a refugee in 1999.

He says he's worried for his family and friends who are once again left fearing for their lives:

"Us fleeing as a family, going outside, overstepping bodies with rockets and bullets flying over our head.

"We should have done this a long time ago. Afghan people they need our help now and twenty thousand isn't enough; you can imagine how people on the ground are actually feeling at the moment. How terrified they are. They do remember those horrific times of the civil war.

"When refugees come in they bring hope for safety but they also bring in dreams and potential.

"I've been proudly serving on the front line of the NHS throughout the pandemic and I've set up my own internatioanl charity and all this wouldn't have happened had I not been shown compassion and allowed the safety to rebuild my life".
