Detectives investigating an attack in Liverpool City Centre, which left a man with serious brain damage, have released CCTV pictures of a man they want to speak to about it.

At around 10.50pm on Saturday 2 July officers were called to a report that a man in his 30s was assaulted on Clayton Square.

The victim was confronted by a man near Flannels Store and punched once in the face after an argument with the attacker who then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment where he was diagnosed with a serious brain injury and fracture to his skull.

Since the attack officers have carried out an extensive investigation in the area and analysed CCTV footage to identify any one who could be responsible. Detectives have now issued images of a man they believe could assist with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Katie Coote said:

“This was a violent attack that has left a man with serious brain damage which he is continuing to recover from.

“We think the man pictured may have vital information to help our enquiries so if you know him, please come forward.

“This incident happened in a busy part of the city where residents or shoppers may have seen the attack. If you recognise this man, or these images remind you of anything suspicious you may have seen on Clayton Square last month please do let us know.

“While some weeks have passed since the incident on Saturday 2 July, we are still determined to find the person responsible.
