A business owner from Merseyside is joining calls for better online security after scammers drained thousands from his bank account.

Hackers cloned Olly Harrison's girlfriend's Facebook profile then used the couple's card details to pay for advertising campaigns to the tune of £4000.

The warning comes as a new report is published urging the government to do more to combat online fraud.

Since having the money returned to their account, Olly says not everyone might be as lucky as them :

"They took two hundred pound, two hundred pound, three hundred pound, three hundred pound, four hundred pound, four hundred pound and the last transaction was three lots of seven hundred pounds.

"I was lucky that it was a business account and there was enough funds in there to cover it but we have som nay transactiosn goin gin and out it was hard to spot at first but if that was someone's personal account and they have bills coming out and mortgages to pay then it's gone.

"They're looking for people with cards attached to accounts so try not to link a card to an account and just use it when you need it so it's not sat on the Facebook mainframe if you like. Be vigilent. They seem to try accounts that aren't very active so they can get away with a crime longer before it's noticed".

In a statement Facebook says it takes many precautions to prevent unauthorised access to information that is saved on its platform and that it has 15,000 reviewers working every day to keep people safe online.
