Girl in 'serious condition' after being hit by car on Wirral

Merseyside Police say a girl remains in a 'serious condition' in hospital after being hit by a car in Bebington.

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Merseyside Police have confirmed they were called to Old Chester Road just after 3.30pm on Thursday 9th February to reports of a crash involving a red Nissan Qashqai and a young girl.

She sustained a serious head injury and was airlifted hospital where she remains.

In a statement yesterday evening, the force said: 'We can confirm that emergency services are on Old Chester Road in Bebington following a serious collision this afternoon, Thursday 9 February.

'Just after 3.30pm we received a report of a collision involving a red Nissan Qashqai and a pedestrian.

'The pedestrian, a young girl, sustained a serious head injury and has been taken to hospital via an air ambulance.

'The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

'Old Chester Road is closed whilst emergency services remain at the scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area.'
