Three arrested after armed police swoop on car on Smithdown Road

Three people have been arrested after armed police carried out a stop-check on a car on Smithdown Road this afternoon
Officers stopped an Audi car at just after 1pm on Smithdown Road in Allerton.
Three males in the car were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and have been taken to police stations for questioning.
Several officers were seen pointing guns at a dark car on Smithdown near to the junction of Penny Lane.
A search of the car uncovered a suspected handgun which has been recovered for forensic examination.
An investigation is currently underway
