Man hit with a baseball bat and punched in Sankey Valley Park

Detectives investigating an assault in Sankey Valley Park in Warrington are appealing for information from members of the public.

A 45-year-old man was walking his dog when he was approached by a group of men.

One of the men hit him with a baseball bat before he was stabbed.

He was taken to Aintree Hospital by ambulance with a minor injury to his chest and has since been discharged.

The assault occurred shortly after 3.30pm on Monday 19 September.

Following numerous enquiries officers arrested two men, aged 41 and 43, on suspicion of assault and they are both currently in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Maggie Cassidy, of Warrington local policing unit, said: “A number of people were in the park at the time and may have seen a group of men and the victim either when the assault occurred or afterwards when the men fled the area.

“I want to encourage anyone who has any information, and not yet spoken to police officers, to please get in touch.”
