Anti-gun and knife march in memory of Liverpool teenager
Yusuf Sonko, 18, was shot dead in Toxteth in June
The family of a Liverpool teenager shot dead in Toxteth are holding a march today, calling for guns and knives to be taken off our streets
Yusuf Sonko, 18, was shot in the street on Lodge Lane in June.
Today hundreds of people are expected to join the march, alongside Olympic boxer Natasha Jonas.
It sets off from Tiber Square at 1pm, with campaigners asked to gather at 12.30pm. The march is expecting to end at 3pm at Lime Street.
Speaking at the time of his death, Yusuf’s family paid tribute to him as ‘kind and loving’:
“Yusuf was dearly loved by all who knew him, his cheeky smile and charisma could light up any room. He was family orientated, kind, loving, and intelligent, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
“His parents, brothers and sisters have been left with an unfillable void. We ask anyone with information to please come forward and help us in our search for justice.”
The march comes ahead of a two week gun surrender taking place on Merseyside.
