Ainsdale beach closed after "wartime ordinance" found

Sefton Council has evacuated the area whilst the emergency services deal with the incident

Ainsdale beach has been closed after suspected wartime explosives were found.

The discovery was made earlier this morning, with the entire area being evacuated.

Sefton Council haven't confirmed when the beach will re-open, and say that the emergency services are dealing with the incident.

In a statement on twitter, the council said: "Police are currently evacuating Ainsdale Beach due to the discovery of wartime ordinance.

"We are asking people to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.

"Shore Road has been closed."

The evacuation has taken place as a precaution.
