2020 time capsule goes on permanent display at Liver Building
It's to "remember one of the most pivotal and poignant years" in history
An time capsule put together by the likes of Kim Cattrall, Trent Alexander-Arnold and The Vivienne to commemorate 2020 has been unveiled at the Royal Liver Building.
The ‘Capsule of Culture’ remembers one of the most pivotal and poignant years in world history and will be permanently displayed inside the world-famous landmark building on Liverpool’s waterfront as part of the RLB360 attraction.
Former world champion boxer Tony Bellew, Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK’s The Vivienne and Lord Mayor Cllr Anna Rothery have also contributed to the capsule.
Members of the public and schools submitted their ideas to commemorate 2020 in the time capsule and a stellar judging panel decided on what should be included.
Olympic Gold medalist Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Chief Executive Officer at Everton Denise Barrett-Baxendale plus Maria Breslin, the first female editor of the Liverpool ECHO in its 142-year history, Sex and the City actress Kim Cattrall, football icon Trent Alexander-Arnold and RU Paul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne were all part of the judging committee.
Memorabilia from the Black Lives Matter movement, a copy of the Brexit Bill, a Liverpool FC shirt signed by the Premier League winning team, a model of Everton FC’s proposed new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, Tony Bellew’s signed boxing gloves, a copy of the Liverpool ECHO, an NHS donation to commemorate their work and support plus Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are all included in the capsule too.
Chris Devaney from Royal Liver Building 360 said:
“The Capsule of Culture will recognise global events of the year but also moving moments which have defined our wonderful region and that have contributed to our cultural history. This is Liverpool's way of remembering 2020. We are excited to be unveiling the capsule which will be a major part of our attraction.”
