Missing three legged cat found in Liverpool - 45 miles from home
A family are overjoyed after their missing cat turned up in Liverpool, more than a month after she went missing from home in Macclesfield.
A three legged cat has been found in Liverpool - more than a month after she went missing from her home, 45 miles away.
Brandy, an 11-year-old tabby and white cat who had a leg amputated when she was two, was reunited with her worried family thanks to her microchip.
Owner Tracy Lake, of Nicholson Avenue, in Hurdsfield, Macclesfield, said she feared the worst after Brandy, who has been a house cat for the last three years, suddenly went missing five weeks ago.
She said: “We could not find her anywhere in the house one day and that’s when we realised that she must have sneaked out of the house, unbeknown to any of us. It was so worrying. My daughter Leanne put something on Facebook appealing for people to help us find Brandy, but we had no luck in finding her.
“I was sure that we would never see her again. Then last week, I picked up on a voicemail from the RSPCA saying that they’d found my cat - and that she was in Liverpool. I couldn’t believe it."
Brandy was found by a member of the public in an industrial estate next to Liverpool John Lennon Airport with numerous scratches on her body. She was also underweight.
Tracy said: “I didn’t believe at first that she had been found alive 45 miles away. I was absolutely ecstatic though and we went to meet her at a vets.
“She was in such a sorry mess and was looking very thin with scratches on her, but she was so happy to see us and we were over the moon to be reunited with her. It just goes to show how important microchipping is, because if it wasn’t for Brandy’s microchip, we would never have been reunited with her.
“She has had quite an adventure. We can only assume that she jumped in a van and travelled all the way to Liverpool.”
RSPCA Animal Collection Officer Derek Hampson, who picked up Brandy from Liverpool, said: “What happened to Brandy just goes to show how important microchipping your pet is as you have far greater chances of being reunited with your pet if he gets lost or stolen. It was fantastic to be able to reunite Brandy with her worried family, and this was only possible because of her microchip.”
