A man has died after being hit by a scrambler bike in Kirkby.

A man has died after being hit by a scrambler bike in Kirkby.

Emergency services were called to the junction of County Road and St Kevin’s Drive at 4.15pm to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a red and white 250CC Honda motorbike at a pedestrian crossing.

Two men, who were believed to have been on the bike, sustained injuries. One of the men, a 27-year-old from Kirkby, received a serious head injury and the second male, a 17-year-old from Melling, sustained minor injuries.

They have been taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition, and have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The pedestrian, a 36-year-old man from Kirkby, sustained multiple serious injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Formal identification of the man has yet to take place. His next of kin have been informed.

There are a number of road closures were in place around the scene while an investigation took place.

Sergeant Ged Farley, from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime Roads Policing Unit, said:

"Our enquiries into this incident are at an early stage and we are currently speaking to witnesses and exploring CCTV opportunities.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the red and white 250CC Honda motorbike being ridden before the incident to contact us.

“It is believed to have travelled through Kirkby town centre and along County Road heading north in the direction of Maghull shortly before the collision. If you saw the bike, or the incident itself, please contact us as any information however small it may seem could prove vital to our enquiries.”
