Liverpool's Waterfront Crowned The Greatest Place In England

Liverpool's iconic waterfront has been named England's Greatest Place.

The dock's won a national competition organised by the Royal Town Planning Institute, to show off the diverse places that planners and the planning systems have created. Liverpool's Waterfront beat Thame High Street in Oxfordshire and a historic village near Bradford.

Over 11,000 people voted on a shortlist of 10 places in a poll that rolled out to the general public.

Joanne Harding, Chair of the Royal Town Planning Institude North West, said "It is not surprising that Liverpool's Waterfront has been boted England's Greatest Place. The Waterfront is fabulous, it is iconic and it is loved by many. The changes that it has seen over the last 30 years have been carefully planned and delievered to provide the vibrant waterfront we enjoy today. We are proud to have such a wonder assest within our area."

The award was presented to Councillor Malcom Kennedy, Liverpool City Council's Cabinet Member of Regeneration, Transport and Climate Change by the Royal Town Planning Institude's president Janet Askew at the Albert Docks today.
