Donations and support have been flooding in for Sunflowers a Cancer support charity after they were burgled at the weekend.

Sunflowers Cancer Support Group is an independent charity based on Aigburth Road. They help anyone who is affected by a diagnose of cancer, including patients, survivors and carers across Merseyside.

They thought they would be one of the last places to be targeted. A rock smashed the back window of their premise and several hundred pounds was taken from their safe. The burglar alarm was set off at 5pm on Sunday and the thief was chased away by a nearby business owner.

Emma Squibb is the Programme Manager for the charity which is run on donations, she told Radio City, 'It wasn't so much what he took as the damage he did to what we have, which is a lovely calm atmosphere.'

'We have a very small staff team, there is only three of us. The rest of the team is volunteers, so it's really soul destroying to see all of that work potienally damaged by someones mindless act of agression.'

The people of Liverpool have rallied around the small charity, offering to volunteer and making donations to help them at this difficult time. Emma Squibb has said, 'The response from the Liverpool public has been fantastic. We've had loads of support, we've had volunteers coming in, we've had little donations and some not so little donations. So it's been a really fantastic end to a horrible thing'.
