Live updates on The Queen's visit to Liverpool today

The Queen will visit Liverpool today and officially open the Exhibition Centre & Aldery Hey Children's Hospital.

Her Majesty and Prince Phillip will arrive at the Town Hall around midday and be greeted by a contingent of Merseyside Sea Cadet Corps.

She'll then visit the International Festival of Buisness which is taking place and officially open the Exhibition Centre.

In the afternoon, The Queen and Duke will visit the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where they will be met by Hospital Chairman, Sir David Henshaw

The Royal Party will meet members of the Trust, Staff, patients and relatives as they walk around the wards, finally the Queen will mark her visit by unveiling a plaque.

Medical Director Rick Turnock said:

"We applied to the Royal Household for a Royal visitor to do our officlay opening, we were so pleased that the Queen herself said she wanted to do it, so it's very exciting for us"

"The staff are really excited about it, there's a fantastic buzz, it's difficult to put into words how people are feeling but it's great."
