Police have found a large-scale cannabis farm in Anfield following reports of an fire.

Specialist officers from the Cannabis Dismantling Team attended a house on Oakfield Road following reports of a fire on Monday morning around 9.30 am.

After a full search of the property, around 350 cannabis plants were discovered, along with growing equipment. The farm was set across three rooms and a loft at the house, and it has been confirmed that the electricity was abstracted via bridging of the meter, which has now been made safe. Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible.

Cannabis Dismantling Sergeant Angie Norstrom: “This recovery demonstrates once again the risk to our communities from cannabis farms.

Cannabis farms are a huge fire hazard due the dangerous and illegal way that the electricity supply is tampered with, and can pose a danger to neighbouring houses and businesses.

“The community are our eyes and ears when it comes to cannabis farms. They can be set up anywhere and criminal gangs use lots of small properties such as flats or terraced houses to spread their risk. This means they are being operated in streets where decent, ordinary, law-abiding people are living and working, and this is putting those residents and business owners at risk.

“The cultivation of cannabis is also linked to criminal gangs who will use violence to protect their crops from rivals and coerce vulnerable people into running them for them. This can bring other crime into communities where farms are prevalent, including the use of weapons such as firearms.

“It is therefore in everyone’s interests to help the police rid communities of cannabis farms by sharing suspicions and information with us. If you tell us your suspicions, the police can and will take decisive action.”
