Kirkdale cyclist in hospital after crashing during police pursuit

An investigation is under way after a cyclist was knocked over after being pursued by a police officer on foot.

An investigation is under way after a cyclist was knocked over after being pursued by a police officer on foot.

The man is in a "serious but stable'' condition after he collided with a taxi in Fountains Road, Kirkdale, Liverpool, at around 8.30 pm on Monday, Merseyside Police confirmed.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as a matter of standard practice.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said:

"At around 8.30pm, an officer on patrol in the Fountains Road area was involved in a brief foot pursuit of a male riding a pedal cycle. The pedal cycle was ridden on to Fountains Road where it was involved in a collision with a taxi.''

The cyclist was taken to hospital suffering from a head injury.

Traffic investigators attended and an investigation into the collision has been launched.

The taxi driver stayed at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.
