The jury in the PC Dave Phillips murder trial has been to Wallasey today - to be shown the road where he was hit by a stolen pick up truck.
The nine women and three men have been taken to Wallasey Dock Road - which was closed to the public between 11am and 3pm today. Motorists were advised to take alternative routes while the visit took place.
The jurors were taken to the location from Manchester Crown Court, where the trial is taking place. The purpose of the visit was so they could gain an understanding of the local geography of the area, the road itself, and the process that PC Phillips and his partner PC Birkett took that night in their efforts to stop the pick up truck.
PC Phillips, a 34 year old father of two, was killed on 5th October last year. The 34 year old had been trying to deploy a stinger device - used to deflate a vehicles tyres - across the carriageway when he was struck. He was crouching down on the central reservation at the time.
19 year old Clayton Williams denies murdering the officer - and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to another officer. He has admitted burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.
