Merseyside Police is appealing for information after a woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault on the Wirral earlier this month. At around 3.15am on Sunday, 6 March, the victim was waiting for a taxi on Conway Street, Birkenhead when she was picked up by an unknown man driving a white car at the junction of Conway Street and Adelphi Street. The victim was driven to an unknown location, possibly in Liscard, where she was sexually assaulted, before being driven to her destination. The image above is of the vehicle police believe may have been used in the attack. The man is described as white, aged 35-40 years, of normal build, and speaking with a Wirral accent. He was wearing a long-sleeved black waterproof coat, black trousers (possibly tracksuit bottoms) and wearing a hat with a badge on the front. The vehicle is possibly a Vauxhall Zafira Tourer. Detectives are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area to see if anyone witnessed anything suspicious or if there is any CCTV footage that could help the investigation. Specialist detectives from the force’s Unity team are looking after the victim and providing her with the care and support she needs at this time. Anyone who was in the Conway Street area around 3am on Sunday, 6 March, or has any other information that could help the police investigation, is asked to call the Unity team on 0151 777 1382 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
