Police release image of man they want to speak to following racist attack in Wirral

Merseyside Police is appealing for information after a racially aggravated public order offence and theft that took place in the Kensington area of Liverpool, earlier this year.

At around 11.30am on Friday, 25 March a man suspected of shoplifting from the Home Bargains store in Kensington, Liverpool, and when challenged by a staff member, made racist comments. The man is described as slim build, in his 30s, and being around 5ft 10 in, wearing a dark tracksuit and a grey fleece jacket. Detective Inspector Nick Suffield said: "This incident resulted in a women being the victim of racist abuse. "I am sure the local community would agree that this type of behaviour has no place in Merseyside. "We tackle hate crime in all its forms and we want victims and offenders to be left in no doubt that offences targeting people because of their race, disability, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police. "The force has a dedicated Sigma Hate Crime Investigation Team because it is vital we give the proper support to victims, take effective action against those responsible for hate crime and build trust with those who consider themselves vulnerable to such crimes.” Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Liverpool SIGMA team on 0151 777 4048 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
