Patients in Warrington have been told to stay away from the hospital's A&E unless they're in a life threatening condition, because they're at full capacity.

They've issued the following statement for guidance;

Professor Simon Constable, Medical Director at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust continues to urge local residents to consider their options before attending the Accident and Emergency department,

“Warrington Hospital A&E remains at full capacity protocol today. Yesterday’s activity peaked around 7pm last night with patients exceeding capacity by more than 50 per cent.

“As a result, the longest wait was around 8hours, priority as always was given to severely unwell or injured patients.

“We were disappointed that many people continued to present with minor ailments which could have been seen and treated by their GP or local pharmacist. However, we did not turn anyone away.”
