Police were called to an apartment block in Liverpool city centre on Monday night after reports from residents that a man, armed with a knife, was in the corridors of the building. Shortly after 7.20pm officers attended the apartment block on Mann Island and found a man, in an agitated state, armed with a knife. The man was threatening to harm himself and refused to put down the knife, as a result an officer was authorised to discharge a Taser at the man for the man's own safety. The 23-year-old man was initially taken to hospital but has now been arrested on suspicion of affray.

No other members of the public were injured during this incident. Merseyside Police has instigated the normal post incident procedures to investigate the full circumstances of the deployment of the Taser.
