Plans have been revealed to move Liverpool Women's Hospital out of Toxeth.

In a huge shake-up, health chiefs have declaired the move is necessary, so it can provide the best possible case for women and babies on Mereseyside.

The hospital opened in Toxteth 20 years ago, and more than 8000 babies are born there every year.

But there's been question marks over it's future in the city for a while, and health officials have now confirmed they see their future away from the Crown Street site.

They say a move will give women and babies better access to treatment, and maternity services could move to the news Royal Hospital or Aintree.

Gynaecology patients are often moved from the Women's to the Royal for scans and treatment, while babies who fall ill are frequently transferred to Alder Hey.

They have stressed though that the Women's still provides excellent and safe care at present - and a final decision won't be made until 2017.
