A man from Widnes has made an emotional appeal to help find his grandfather's priceless war medals that were stolen from the family home.
Sometime between 6.00pm on Friday 19th February and 4.30pm on Saturday 20th February offenders broke into an address on Lunts Heath Road, Widnes.
The offenders entered the address by smashing French doors at the rear of the property. Once inside the property they conducted an untidy search and stole a number of items.
The stolen items included a large quantity of jewellery and a number of WW2 service medals; including a Defence Medal and an Africa Star.
Stu Mather's parents own the home. He said: "I dont think these people realise the havoc they make when they do things like this"
"This is stuff that's irreplaceable. This is 50 years worth of memories gone in an instant because some selfish person thought they could grab what they can"
Cheshire Police currently carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace those responsible and to recover the stolen items.
This has included the retrieval of a quantity of photographs and letters taken during the incident which were found in woodland off Molly’s Lane, Kirkby.
Inspector Chris Adkins said: "Some of these items have great sentimental value and cannot be replaced. We are doing everything we can to trace the items and return them to their rightful owners. The owners are understandably heartbroken by what has happened and are desperate to get their personal belongings back.
"The war medals in particular are very distinctive and I am appealing to anyone who has any information regarding the whereabouts of any of the stolen items or anyone who is offered items similar to those mentioned to get in touch"
"We are also appealing to anyone who has any information in relation to any of these incidents to come forward. We would also urge anyone who has any information regarding those responsible to contact us."
