An elderly woman was treated for shock after what's believed to be a targeted shooting in Bootle last night.

A member of the public called the police at 7.45pm to report that several shots had been fired at a house in Hereford Drive causing damage to the front of it.

The offender is believed to have pulled up outside the house in a black car, possibly a VW Golf, and got out to then fire several shots at the property.

He then got back into the car, which was driven by a second person, and the car drove off in the direction of Aintree.

The two adults who were in the house at the time were not injured however a woman aged in her 70s was treated for shock by paramedics called to the scene.

An investigation led by the force’s Matrix Serious Organised Crime unit and supported by local neighbourhood officers has been launched and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Part of Hereford Drive has been cordoned off and crime scene investigators are carrying out a forensic examination at the house.

Patrols have been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

Although the motive for the shooting is unclear at this early stage of the investigation, detectives are treating it as a targeted attack.
