Appeal After Everton Hit & Run

Published 2nd Sep 2015

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an incident on the junction of Stockbridge Street and Breckfield Road North in Everton on Friday, 21 August.

It happened around 8.40 pm when a man in a silver Vauxhall Astra estate mounted the kerb and drove his car directly at another man walking on the pavement. The victim was hit by the vehicle and was thrown on to the bonnet of the vehicle.

Both men then became involved in a brawl in the middle of Breckfield Road North, when two men in a passing vehicle stopped and separated the pair. The driver of the Astra then got back in his vehicle and drove off.

Detective Constable Craig Doyle said: “The driver deliberately drove his vehicle at this individual knowing that his actions would cause harm. Fortunately in this instance the victim suffered only minor injuries, but it could have been a lot worse.

“I am particularly appealing to those individuals who intervened, or anyone who saw the vehicle mount the pavement and strike the victim, to please make contact.”

Police believe that the two individuals involved in this incident are known to each other.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4027 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
