Tributes paid to 'kind and gentle' man following fatal crash in Carlisle

The family of a man who died after a crash in Carlisle have paid trbute to him - saying he touched the hearts of so many people young and old.

21-year-old Ryan Thompson was hit by a car on Denton Street in the early hours of Friday 23 September. He died at the scene.

Emergency services attended just before 4am, but they were unable to save him.

In a statement, his family said: "As a family we are devastated from the shock and would like to thank everyone for the heartfelt messages, cards, flowers and support.

"The pain of losing Ryan is beyond words and our lives will never be the same again but we take great comfort from the overwhelming rush of love and admiration everyone had for Ryan.

We hold you in our hearts forever. Keep smiling Ryan, We love you. Fly high."

His mum and dad have paid touching individual tributes to their beloved son.

His father added: "Ryan was kind, funny and clever, always willing to help anyone around him without question. He had a smile that would light up a room and a sense of humour to match."

His mum said: "Ryan was a kind and gentle soul who would do anything to help anyone, with the most amazing smile that melted our hearts."

No arrests have yet been made.
