West Cumbrian man in critical condition after suspected serious assault
Police are appealing for witnesses and information as a part of an investigation into a suspected serious assault in Workington.
Officers were called at 1.21am on Monday (March 28) following concerns for the welfare of a man, 34, of west Cumbria, found by passers-by in a back lane off Milburn Street, Workington.
Medical staff attended and the man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Investigations were immediately launched following the report of the discovery of the man.
As a result, two people were swiftly arrested – a man, 46, and a woman, 39, both of Workington.
They were both arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Further to this, detectives confirm that today a man, 34, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a man, 51, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Enquiries continue and detectives are appealing for anyone with information or who may have heard or seen any altercation or disturbance in the area to come forward.
