Get Safe Online experts will be in The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle on Saturday 11 December, providing the public with free expert advice on how to stay safe and shop safe online this Christmas. The team will be available from 10am – 2pm to answer any questions around online safety and how the public can avoid falling victim to cyber criminals.

The organisation helps communities all over the world learn how to stay safe online and can provide advice for all age groups from older people, who struggle with technology to providing information to parents on how to keep their children safe.

Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall, commissions Get Safe Online in Cumbria and will be joining the team from 11am – 1pm.

He said:

“Online shopping is growing in popularity and with many of us heading online, so are the criminals.

“Cyber-criminals will not be slowing down this Christmas and will be looking for financial gain wherever and whenever they can. This is why it’s so important that we all know how to better protect ourselves when online – simple tips and tricks can really help protect us and make sure that our Christmas is not ruined.

“I would urge everyone to come down to the Lanes on Saturday and have a chat with the Get Safe Online team. They are experts in their field and can really provide the best information and advice to keep you safe, not just at Christmas but all year round.

“As part of my role as PCC, I have a duty to listen to the public’s concerns around policing and raise these matters with the Chief Constable. Everyone is welcome to come along and chat to me about any policing matters they feel need to be raised.

“If you cannot come along but would like to raise a concern, you can contact my office on commissioner@cumbria-pcc.gov.uk or telephone 01768 217734.”

Maria Brooker from Get Safe Online, said:

“We are thrilled to be attending the Lanes shopping centre in Carlisle this Saturday with Peter McCall and his team and looking forward to providing useful, impartial help and advice to keep the entire family safe and secure online.’’
