Search continues for missing paddleboarder in Lake District

Police looking for a missing man from Greater Manchester are asking people to stay away from an area of Ullswater as they head into day three of the search.

It comes after a man was paddle boarding with a friend around Aira point when he fell into the water and got into difficulty on Sunday lunchtime (7th August).

Local search and rescue teams have been joining the search as well as Cumbria's Fire and Rescue service.

In a statement, Cumbria Police said:

"Today (9 Aug), emergency services continue to be in attendance at Ullswater, after a man got into difficulty on the lake Sunday (Aug 7) at around 1.10pm. He remains unaccounted for.

"The man, who is from Greater Manchester, was reported to be paddleboarding with a friend at Ullswater, in the vicinity of Aira Point, close to the ferry stop, when he fell into the water.

"Emergency services were called after the man’s friend and others on the lake were unable to locate him.

"The man’s family have been made aware and are being supported by officers.

"People in the area are asked to stay clear of the vicinity whilst emergency services continue to work."
