Rangers manager Mark Warburton defended his club's right to "look after number one" following their pursuit of Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan days before the teams meet.
Rangers made a slightly improved offer for Allan on Thursday, hours after Hibs confirmed they had rejected a £175,000 bid for a player they would not sell to one of their nearest rivals under any circumstance.
Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs claimed his only surprise was that Rangers did not wait to submit their bid 24 hours before their visit to Easter Road in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup on Saturday.
But Warburton is happy to leave the transfer business to others inside Ibrox.
