Archibald hoping to sell Scotland to signing targets

Partick manager Alan Archibald is hoping to convince signing targets to opt for football over finances, as he seeks to beat the transfer deadline.

Archibald is desperate to bolster his squad before the window shuts at the end of the month but has been frustrated in his efforts so far.

He said: We have a few injuries just now and we are light on bodies so we do need to get a few in.

I've been saying for the last few weeks that I've been close to getting them in and it's not happened.

Hopefully we can get a couple over the line before the deadline.

It's mostly guys down south and it's just trying to convince them to come to Scotland and to buy into what we are trying to do here.

It's a good shop window for players, they are playing in the top league in Scotland, and it's a platform for them to go and perform.

The financial aspect isn't as good as it is down the road so we have to do all we can to sell it to them.''

Thistle travel to Aberdeen this weekend to take on a side who inflicted a couple of heavy defeats on them last term.

But Archibald believes his players will be able to offer more of a threat against a Dons side who have had an inconsistent start to the campaign.

He said: We know how tough this game will be. They are going into this game off the back of a disappointing result last week.

We know the strengths and qualities they have but we think we can go up there and hurt them. They will be ready and organised - but so will we.''
