Three men in hospital following A1 smash

Three people have been rushed to hospital following a three-vehicle crash on the A1, near Cockburnspath.

A tractor with trailer, lorry and a car were involved in the collision which happened around 10.30am this morning (Monday).

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised - and found one of the vehicles well alight.

Among those in attendance were fire crews from Dunbar, East Linton, Eyemouth and Haddington, as well as a heavy rescue vehicle from Sighthill.

An air ambulance was also called.

The cross-border route remained closed this afternoon while police examined the scene.

Local diversions were put in place and bus services disrupted.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.30am on Monday, 16 November 2020, officers were called to a report of a three vehicle crash involved a tractor and trailer, an HGV and a car on the A1 near Cockburnspath.

"Three men have been taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

"The road remains closed and local diversions are in place."

The road remained closed at 4pm with police advising it's expected to remain closed for several hours.

It's understood a number of pigs being transported in the lorry had to be put down.
