Man, 58, found dead following report of 'firearms incident'

Police have confirmed a 58-year-old man has been found dead near Kelso.

It follows reports of a "firearms incident".

The discovery was made in the Morebattle area around 6.40am this morning (Thursday).

Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances and a report, detailing the circumstances, will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the death of a 58-year-old man in the Morebattle area near Kelso around 6.40am on Thursday, March 9th.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The man's been named locally as a director of a local groundworks firm.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive said: “We are assisting Police Scotland with an investigation.”
