Fans queue from 5.30am to see Ed Sheeran in Leeds
He's performing at Roundhay Park tonight and tomorrow
The atmosphere in Leeds is building as tens of thousands of fans are expected to arrive for the first of two huge Ed Sheeran gigs in the city tonight.
People have been queuing up in Roundhay Park since 5.30am in the rain to get a good spot.
The capacity of the site was recently increased to 80,000 to accommodate the huge number wanting to watch him perform.
Klara travelled all the way from Belgium to make sure she didn’t miss the climax of the singer-songwriter’s worldwide tour.:
“It’s going to be so many big fans and so many people having an amazing time, especially on such a big field I think it’s going to be like one massive festival.
“What I love about Ed as an artist is that after all these years is that he’s still doing it by himself, he doesn’t need a band, it’s just him live on stage and he’s still baffled by the success he has.”
It’s not just good news for music fans, local Leeds businesses are also anticipating a busy weekend.
The Roundhay Fox pub have drafted in extra staff from across the region to cope with the huge number of spectators.
Assistant Manager, Ed Broadly, said:
“Even if we get 10% of the people that come on each day then we’re looking at about eight to ten thousand, it’s going to be mega for us.
“Obviously if the event goes well tonight and tomorrow then it will attract other big acts and put Roundhay on to the map as a venue for the UK.”
The rainy weather forecast doesn’t seem to have dampened the spirits of supporters who have turned up to mark their spot for tonight’s show.
Tasha from Leeds is thrilled to see Ed Sheeran perform in her hometown.
“I’m a big, big, big fan of Ed Sheeran – I love his music, I’ve got his albums, everything. It’s hard to put into words how excited I am – it’s going to be amazing.
