The first image of the newly revamped Teletubbies has been revealed today.
Two decades on from Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po gracing our TV screens the immensely popular children’s show is returning to CBeebies later this year.
The four main characters have retained their signature colours and antennae on their heads but they’ve been taken into the 21st Century by ditching their trademark television tummies for “touch screens.”
Alongside the tweaked Teletubbies, their residence in Teletubbyland and Home Hill "have been visually enriched" and will boast blooming flowers and changing scenery.
Sitting amongst the brown rabbits, rolling green hills and endless blue sky will be an eco-friendly windmill made entirely from natural materials.
Acting legend Jim Broadbent and TV presenter Fearne Cotton are amongst those providing voices for the revamped Teletubbies.
Comedian Daniel Rigby will narrate the episodes and Misfits actress Antonia Thomas will voice the opening and closing lines.
The new Teletubbies series has been met with criticism from co-creator Anne Wood who said she won’t be watching it.
"I'm a bit sad. It comes down to the times we're in," she complained. "People feel safer remaking hits of the past rather than investing in something new."
One of the most successful TV shows ever, Teletubbies was shown in over 100 countries and had an estimated audience of 1billion children.
